Newington Yoga Center welcomes
Sarah Goddard, teacher and Program Coordinator at the Himalyan Institue, for a weekend workshop.
Move your asana and breathing practice to the next level!
Increase the power of your present practice. This dynamic workshop will focus on using asana and pranayama techniques to help us deepen our connection with agni, the subtle force that drives digestion, inner healing, and personal transformation. We need strong agni at the navel center to access the energy and concentration for spiritual growth. Without this strong fire, it’s hard to progress in meditation.
Throughout the weekend, Sarah will lead us through exercises that build this fire and naturally lead us to a meditative state.
Each session will begin with a brief discussion followed by an experiential practice.
Friday Night~ Building the Container for Agni
- An explanation of what inner fire is from the yogic and tantric perspectives
- An understanding of the pelvis and abdomen as a “container” for this inner fire
- A grounding practice of asana, pranayama and relaxation to build a strong “container” for the inner fire
Saturday Afternoon • Lighting the Fire of Agni
- A discussion of agni from the ayurvedic perspective
- A explanation of the practice of agni sara
- A practice to “Light the Fire” including pelvic abdominal work, breath coordination, strong standing poses, vigorous pranayama, and agni sara
Saturday Evening • Basking in the Glow

- A introduction to meditation in the Himalayan Tradition, and how to choose your “sitting pose”
